Trying Scrawl: a Plone blog-content engine

Huh?

One of the annoyances of using the blog at Swiftpassage has been the fact that is really isn't very blog-like in the use of it. It's been frankly annoying preparing entries, and uploading content, and compared to the likes of Facebook, LiveJournal or Twitter, it just hasn't really held its own because of the "ease of use" issue. It's also lacked features that a blog usually has.

So, I've been exploring content-addons available for Plone, and have come across Scrawl. This is my first effort at using it, and I don't really know if it will prove its worth.

Let's see!

Scrawl comment...

Well, it was very easy to initiate the entry, add a photo, and publish it. It auto-magicaly turned on comments, which used to require futzing around clicking radio-buttons to make happen. And it seems very 'LiveJournal-like' in its presentation. It hasn't added the content to the News Items column, but I suspect that it could be configured to do so.

It's got a nice rhythm, it's easy to dance to, I give it an '8'...

Hey, this is pretty interesting....

Have you been able to make the blog work any better since last summer? I'd love to do something like this for myself.

It's funny you should ask. I've actually only recently started re-vamping the whole set-up, moving it all to a new server, and updating the Plone system to it's latest stable version. There are still some design hassles to attend to, and a desire to really create a whole new look to the thing, but I think we can get there with a little more attention to it all. My unfamiliarity with object-oriented web design is the big stumbling block, but the tools to help noobs like myself have been evolving over the past couple of years, and I think I can make some in-roads here now.

Keep an eye on it, and see what we make happen!
